An 8 or 10 hour layover can become a short city tour if you hold the right entry document and a private driver is waiting. Below are the general rules and links to each airport guide.

Distances are a guide; travel times are approximate and traffic can change them.
| Location | Nearest central stop | km | Approx. Time | Traffic, from our drivers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tan Son Nhat Airport | Notre-Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office | 7 | 10-20 min | The airport roads such as Truong Son, Cong Hoa and Nguyen Van Troi - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia are usually busy in the morning commute and the evening rush |
| Noi Bai Airport | Egg coffee at Cafe Giang | 26 | 25-45 min | The usual route is Vo Nguyen Giap road and Nhat Tan Bridge into the city |
| Da Nang Airport | Dragon Bridge and Han River | 3 | 5-10 min | From the airport to the centre you usually take Nguyen Van Linh street over the Dragon or Tran Thi Ly bridge to the beach side |
| Cam Ranh Airport | Po Nagar Cham Towers | 46-54 | 50-95 min | The main route is Nguyen Tat Thanh avenue along Bai Dai beach into southern Nha Trang |
| Phu Quoc Airport | Duong Dong Market | 10 | 15-25 min | Island roads are generally open |
Tan Son Nhat sits inside the city, so central Saigon is only about 7-8 km away. Late morning to early afternoon is usually the easier window into the old District 1; if possible, schedule the return leg before the evening rush. In the rainy season (roughly May to November) heavy afternoon showers are common, some streets may flood briefly and traffic slows.
Unlike Saigon, Noi Bai is about 25-27 km from Hanoi's Old Quarter, across the Red River. The morning commute and the evening rush are when roads into the Old Quarter and around West Lake fill up; midday is usually easier. Winter (roughly December to February) can bring morning fog on the outskirts; summer has afternoon thunderstorms.
Da Nang Airport sits almost in the middle of the city: the Dragon Bridge and the Han River are only about 3 km away. To Hoi An you follow the coastal road Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa past the Marble Mountains; it is more open than the city but gets busier in the evening as visitors head to the old town. Central Vietnam's rain and storm season is usually about September to December; heavy rain can slow the drive and affect outdoor stops such as Son Tra peninsula.
Cam Ranh Airport is not in Nha Trang but on the peninsula to the south, about 40-42 km from Tran Phu beach road. In town, Tran Phu beach road gets busy in the evening when locals and visitors head to the seafront. Khanh Hoa's rainy season is usually about September to December with spells of heavy rain; the rest of the year is mostly dry.
Phu Quoc Airport is in the middle of the island, so you can head north or south, but rarely both on one layover. The road north to Grand World is the longest leg, usually about 40-65 minutes each way. The rainy season is usually about May to October with the southwest monsoon and heavy showers; the dry season suits the beaches.
Under Vietnam's immigration law (Article 25), air transit passengers are visa-exempt only while they stay in the airport transit area. To go sightseeing you must clear immigration and enter Vietnam: hold an e-visa (apply in advance on the official Immigration Department portal) or qualify for visa exemption by nationality. If your ticket includes a domestic leg or you must re-check bags, you have to enter Vietnam anyway. On the e-visa form, pick the correct airport for entry and exit.
Ask your airline whether bags are checked through and when check-in closes for your onward flight.
Only if you clear immigration. Under Article 25 of Vietnam's immigration law, transit passengers are visa-exempt only while they stay airside; to go out you need an e-visa (evisa.gov.vn) or a visa-exempt passport.
Subtract immigration, bag collection and onward check-in time; the comparison table above gives the drive to each city centre so you can work it out.
Yes. We track your flight and the driver waits for delays, with no airport waiting fee; the sightseeing plan is shortened so you are back in time for your onward check-in.
A six-hour gap between flights does not mean six hours in the city. Subtract around an hour for immigration and any baggage reclaim, then add check-in closing time for the onward flight, usually 60 minutes before an international departure and 40 minutes before a domestic one. Travellers on foreign passports also need to confirm visa or visa-exemption rules before leaving the transit area; without entry permission there is no sightseeing.
Da Nang airport is almost in the city, so three to four free hours are enough for My Khe beach, the Dragon Bridge and the Son Tra peninsula. Tan Son Nhat is also close to the centre: with five free hours you can see the Independence Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Noi Bai is further out, so plan at least six free hours for Hoan Kiem Lake and the Temple of Literature. At Cam Ranh, Bai Dai beach or the Po Nagar towers in Nha Trang fit a longer gap.
The driver keeps any checked luggage in the boot and gets you back to the departure hall at the agreed time, with a reminder 30 minutes before.
