About District 3
District 3 is in Ho Chi Minh City. Since 1 July 2025 Vietnam no longer has a district level, so the area is now made up of wards and communes under Ho Chi Minh City. Former District 3 sits beside central HCMC, with Vinh Nghiem pagoda, the pink Tan Dinh church, the War Remnants Museum and Turtle Lake. Tan Son Nhat is about 5–6 km away.
Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 districts no longer exist; the area now comprises Xuân Hòa, Nhiêu Lộc, Bàn Cờ wards, HCMC. Locals still use the old district name.
Since 1 July 2025 local government has two tiers: province or city, and commune or ward. Districts no longer exist, but old names are still used every day. When booking in District 3, write your address the way you know it or send a map pin; drivers understand both old and new names.

Former District 3 keeps many French-era villas along Tu Xuong, Ngo Thoi Nhiem and Tran Quoc Thao streets. Tan Dinh church, built in 1876 and painted pink, opens at Mass times. Turtle Lake at Vo Van Tan and Pham Ngoc Thach is a favourite evening spot.
Places in District 3
Vinh Nghiem pagoda on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia has a seven-storey tower in northern Vietnamese style. The pink Tan Dinh church on Hai Ba Trung was built in 1876. Turtle Lake at the Vo Van Tan – Pham Ngoc Thach roundabout is an evening snack spot. The War Remnants Museum on Vo Van Tan shows tanks and aircraft outdoors. Xa Loi pagoda is nearby.
Since 2025 the area forms Xuan Hoa, Nhieu Loc and Ban Co wards. Tan Dinh and Ban Co markets sell fabric and food. Food includes Dinh Cong Trang banh xeo, bun bo and the snack alleys of Nguyen Thuong Hien and Ky Dong. District 3 is about 6–7 km from Tan Son Nhat via Nam Ky Khoi Nghia – Nguyen Van Troi.
Tips for Quan 3
Turtle Lake is officially International Square, with a tall tower in the middle. Alleys off Ly Chinh Thang and Tran Quoc Thao have cafés in old villas. The Youth Cultural House and Tao Dan park border the centre; mornings bring a songbird club.
Extra notes on Quan 3
Le Thi Rieng park on Cach Mang Thang Tam has a lake and trees, busy with morning exercisers. Vo Van Tan and Truong Dinh have many lunch eateries and banh mi stalls.
