The Tết 2027 break runs for 7 days, from Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February 2027. It starts on the 28th of the last lunar month and ends on the 5th day of the new year. This lunar month has only 29 days, so New Year's Eve falls on the night of 5 February. The schedule covers the public sector; private employers pick one of several approved options. Here is how to book your car around it.
Private-sector workers may start or finish a few days apart, so confirm your employer's schedule before booking.
The trip home before Tết and the drive back afterwards are often two separate jobs. If you keep the car for the whole break, one long-hire contract is simpler. If you only need drop-off and pick-up, give both dates when booking so the return leg is held.
The afternoon of 3 Feb and the morning of 4 Feb are the most congested at city exits. Leaving the night of 3 Feb or before dawn is usually smoother. The 5th-day afternoon and the morning of 11 Feb are the return peaks.
7- and 16-seaters for 3–5 Feb tend to go early. Confirming by December gets you the right vehicle type; Tết bookings take a deposit of about 10%.
| Date | Lunar date | Typical roads | Booking tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wed 3 Feb | 27th of the last month | City exits busy in the evening as people leave straight from work | Travel overnight or at dawn on 4 Feb |
| Thu 4 Feb | 28th | First day off; heavy outbound traffic from early morning | Leave before 5 a.m. or after 1 p.m. |
| Fri 5 Feb | 29th, New Year's Eve | Busy in the morning, easing later | Short trips, arriving before the year-end meal |
| Sat 6 Feb | 1st day of Tết | Highways quiet; village lanes busy with family visits | Hire a car by the day for visits |
| Sun 7 – Mon 8 Feb | 2nd – 3rd | Pagodas, parks and outings crowded | Go early; agree clear pick-up points |
| Tue 9 Feb | 4th | Return traffic to the cities begins | Return today to avoid the worst |
| Wed 10 Feb | 5th | Last day off; city entrances packed late afternoon | Return in the morning or late evening |
| Thu 11 Feb | 6th | Back to work; late returners on the road early | Add extra time for airport runs |
The HCMC – Trung Lương expressway and its extensions towards Cần Thơ usually fill on the morning of 4 February. Families heading to Cần Thơ, Vĩnh Long or Cà Mau should leave before dawn or split the trip with a lunch break.
Split long drives over two days, especially with grandparents and young children. The completed eastern North–South expressway shortens the run, but Tết service areas can run out of parking; stop earlier when you see space.
Southern exits such as Pháp Vân and Giải Phóng, and the Bắc Ninh and Hải Phòng directions, are busy on the afternoon of 3 February and morning of 4 February. Families bound for Nam Định, Ninh Bình or Thanh Hóa can leave on the evening of the 3rd.
For hometowns on the North–South line such as Nha Trang, Quy Nhơn (Diêu Trì station), Đà Nẵng, Huế or Vinh, travel overnight in a sleeper berth and book a car from the station. Send the train code and carriage so the driver waits at the exit. Tết train tickets go on sale early, so secure them first, then book the car.
| Vehicle | Luggage | Suits |

| 4–5 seat | about 3 suitcases | Couples, small families |
| 7 seat | about 4 suitcases | Families of 4–6 |
| 16 seat, 9-seat limousine | about 6–8 suitcases | Extended families with gift boxes |
| When | To do |
|---|---|
| November 2026 | Confirm your company's holiday; look for flights and train seats |
| December 2026 | Fix travel dates; book 7- and 16-seaters for 3–5 February |
| Mid-January 2027 | Reconfirm flight and train times; send them to us |
| Week before Tết | Send the visit list for a day hire; confirm child seats |
| 3rd–4th day of Tết | Confirm the pick-up time for the return |
Self-drive gives the family control over timing, but the seven-day holiday is also the busiest stretch of the year on the roads. A few habits make it safer.
Collect the car a day early to get used to it, and check tyres, lights, coolant and the electronic toll tag. Fill a petrol car in the city, as stations near expressways queue; charge an EV fully overnight and mark charging stops on the route.
Rest at least every two hours or so; with two drivers, swap at each service area. Leave a bigger gap than usual, as dense traffic brakes suddenly. Do not drink before driving, not even one glass at the year-end meal; the rules allow no alcohol for car drivers.
Lanes are narrow and busy with children and motorbikes over Tết. Park tidily without blocking gates; when visiting several houses, leave the car in one place and walk.
Tết 2027 falls in early February, and the weather differs by region, affecting start times and what to pack.
With a chauffeured car, the driver adjusts timing to the weather and traffic; just tell us when you want to arrive.
Family trips home: a 7-seater; larger families or lots of gifts: a 16-seater. Flying for Tết? See Long Thành or Tân Sơn Nhất pickups.
Travelling with young children? Ask in advance and we will fit child seats. Year-end prices run higher; Tết bookings take a deposit of about 10%.
