Phong Nha and Quang Binh by car: the route, seasonal cave openings and an itinerary. Former Quang Binh, including Dong Hoi and Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, is now part of Quang Tri province after the 2025 merger. Travelling by car lets you link Dong Hoi, the caves and even Hue in one trip. Timing matters most, because the flood season directly affects cave visits.
Dong Hoi has an airport and a stop on the North–South railway. Phong Nha is about 45 km away. To the south, the Van Ninh – Cam Lo expressway opened in August 2025, making car travel between Dong Hoi, Dong Ha and Hue easier. See car rental in Hue if you want to continue.
Before you go, check the national park's announcements and the forecast, and ask about date-change terms.
Families of 4–6: a 7-seater. Larger groups: a 16-seater or 29-seater. Chauffeur prices include fuel and tolls; petrol or diesel is your choice. Airport pickups have no waiting fee, as drivers track your flight in an app.
Every quote gets 10% off, the fleet is 2022–2025 models, and an 8% VAT invoice is issued on request. See also car rental in Da Nang for a longer central Vietnam trip.
Since 2025, Phong Nha – Ke Bang and Dong Hoi are in Quang Tri province.
It is possible, but keep a spare day, since caves and boats depend on water levels.
Yes, but it is long. An overnight in Phong Nha is more relaxed.

Check which caves are open in your month, since some close in the flood season. Bring shoes with grip, a light jacket and a dry bag.
Book boat tickets at the river pier and plan the return before dark.
See Hue – Lang Co guide and car rental in Hue.
Can I drive from Hue? Yes, many link Hue and Phong Nha.
How many days? Two days is a good pace.
