Car Rental With a Driver

An Xpander has three rows, but using every seat reduces luggage space. A family booking needs to count the driver, child restraints and belongings together; self-drive availability also requires separate confirmation.

Share more than the family headcount

List adults, children, strollers and large bags. If seats must fold for luggage, the remaining positions must accommodate everyone with an individual restraint. Confirm the model, self-drive terms and insurance before paying a deposit.

Why the Xpander is easy to get used to

        Seating plans by group size

On a self-drive Xpander the seven includes the driver. Row three suits children, or adults on short legs. If seven adults are travelling far, put the younger ones in the back and swap seats at each break.

        Collecting the car

        1. Walk round with our staff: tyres, lights, wipers and any existing marks. Photograph all four corners and the dashboard.
        2. Note the fuel level so you can return it at the agreed level.
        3. Practise folding and raising row three on the spot, not on the pavement at home with everyone waiting.
        4. Set the seat and mirrors before moving off, including the rear-view mirror with passengers in the back.
        5. Save the support number in your phone.

A practice lap before loading the family

If this is your first 7-seat MPV, take a short drive while the car is empty and get a feel for three things:

        Driving with a full load

Trips that suit a self-drive Xpander

A weekend at the nearby coast

Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau, Ho Tram or Long Hai: good roads and a distance one driver can manage comfortably. A family of five folds row three for beach gear, a cool box and a pushchair.

        Home to the Mekong Delta

Commune roads with light potholes and gate ramps are within the Xpander's clearance. If the last stretch is muddy dirt, a higher car like a Fortuner, with a driver, may suit the trip.

Da Lat, for drivers used to mountain roads

The passes up to Da Lat demand experience. If you have never driven a long mountain road, consider hiring a car with driver for that leg.

        Planning a self-drive weekend

        1. Break the journey into 1.5–2 hour legs with 15–20 minute stops.
        2. Book a hotel with car parking and ask whether it is on site or nearby.
        3. Fill up before quiet stretches, since rural petrol stations can be far apart.

Packing the boot for a family

Parking at resorts and in town

The Xpander is easy to park, but a few habits help. At beach towns, use attended car parks rather than the seafront kerb. In cities, watch for odd-even day restrictions and no-parking hours. Overnight, leave nothing valuable visible through the windows.

        If something goes wrong

        1. Switch on the hazard lights, move to a safe spot if you can and place a warning triangle behind the car.
        2. Get everyone out and behind the barrier or off the road, especially on expressways.
        3. Photograph the scene and call our support number for guidance under the insurance.
        4. Do not have repairs done at a roadside garage before speaking to us.

        Returning the car

        1. Refuel to the level you received.
        2. Clear out rubbish, food and beach sand.
        3. Check the boot, seat pockets and door bins, especially for children's toys.
        4. Walk round the car with our staff and compare with the collection photos.

        Self-drive or with a driver?

Self-driving is not always the right call, even for confident drivers. It works well when the route is familiar, the roads are good and someone in the family enjoys driving. A car with driver may suit you when:

With a driver, the quote includes fuel and tolls, the driver helps load luggage, and multi-day trips cover the driver's room and meals. We can quote both ways so you can compare.

        Visitors driving in Vietnam

If you hold a foreign licence, check before you travel that it is valid for driving in Vietnam. Vietnam recognises international driving permits issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention; holders of other permits generally need a Vietnamese licence. We will confirm the documents to bring when you book. Beyond paperwork, a few local habits are worth knowing:

        Self-driving in the rainy season

From May to November, afternoon storms in the south can flood city streets within minutes. If water covers the kerb, wait rather than drive through: you cannot see potholes or open drains underneath, and water entering the engine can cause serious damage. Switch on headlights in heavy rain, slow down well before puddles to avoid splashing motorbike riders, and allow extra time to get back to the city on Sunday afternoons.

A quick daily check on longer trips

        1. Look at all four tyres before the first drive of the day.
        2. Check the fuel gauge and plan the next fill-up.
        3. Make sure child seats are still firmly fixed after reloading the car.
        4. Clear windows and mirrors of dew or dust.
        5. Confirm the day's route and parking at the next stop.

Keeping children happy on the road

A self-drive family trip goes smoothly when the youngest passengers are comfortable. Plan breaks around nap times rather than the clock, so a sleeping toddler is not woken for a stop nobody needs. Keep a small bag of toys, books and snacks within reach of the middle row; the driver should never have to turn round to pass things back. Bringing clip-on sunshades for the side windows helps on afternoon legs heading west, when low sun falls straight on the rear seats and makes small children hot and restless. Before every restart, an adult checks that each child seat harness is fastened and that no small hands are near the doors. Turn on the child locks for the rear doors if your children are old enough to reach the handles.

Check the family load as well as the Xpander's seats

A smaller family can sometimes fold seats for luggage; using all three rows changes the loading plan. Declare cases and strollers before handover. For self-drive, confirm availability, conditions and change terms. Learn the actual vehicle before a long trip and agree fuel, cleaning and late-return arrangements.

Should a family use all three Xpander rows with heavy luggage?

Use the full cabin only with a suitable seat for everyone and safe storage for every bag. A folded seat cannot simultaneously count as a passenger position. If the load does not work, reduce luggage or request a larger vehicle. Agree one realistic layout before departure day to avoid an urgent change or split baggage.
