Ham Ninh fishing village and the east coast
About 20 km north along the east coast is Ham Ninh fishing village, known for boiled flower crab, a wooden jetty running out to sea and sunsets over the mudflats at low tide. On the way are pepper farms, pearl farms and traditional fish-sauce houses. Phu Quoc fish sauce is made from anchovies fermented in big wooden vats; you can watch the process, but check your airline's rules before taking any on a plane.
Getting to Bai Sao

- From Duong Dong about 25 km along the north–south road.
- The turn-off from the main road to the beach is about 1–2 km.
When to go
The east coast is calmest during the west-coast rainy season, roughly May to October, because the southwest wind blows from the other side of the island and Bai Sao stays calm. In the dry season, November to April, the whole island is sunny.
