Administrative changes to know

Since 1 July 2025 Phu Quoc is a special zone of the new An Giang province (former An Giang and Kien Giang). Names such as Duong Dong, An Thoi and Ganh Dau are still used in addresses.

Since 1 July 2025 local government has two tiers: province or city, and commune or ward. Districts no longer exist, but old names are still used every day. When booking in Duong Dong, write your address the way you know it or send a map pin; drivers understand both old and new names.

Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle

From Duong Dong, Ganh Dau in the north is about 25 km and An Thoi in the south (Hon Thom cable car) about 25 km. Sao beach is about 25 km south-east.

Phu Quoc National Park, Ganh Dau beach, Vinpearl Safari and Grand World are in the north; a private car covers them in a day.

Duong Dong by night

Phu Quoc night market at Bach Dang – Vo Thi Sau sells fresh seafood, sea urchin, snails, herring salad and souvenirs such as pearls and pepper. Dinh Cau on the rocks at the Duong Dong river mouth is a sunset spot. Long Beach south of town has many resorts, about 15 minutes by car to the market.
