Administrative changes to know
Former Cat Hai district is now the Cat Hai special zone of Hai Phong City (which also includes former Hai Duong) since 1 July 2025.

From Hanoi either take the Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway, cross the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen bridge and use the Got – Cai Vieng ferry or Phu Long – Cat Hai cable car; or go via Ha Long and the Tuan Chau – Gia Luan ferry. The car can ride the ferry so you have it on the island.

Boats and kayaks to Lan Ha leave from Beo pier near town. The car drops you and collects you at the return time.
Lan Ha Bay and fishing villages
Lan Ha Bay has hundreds of islands, small beaches such as Ba Trai Dao and Tung Thu, and Cai Beo fishing village, an ancient settlement site. Boats leave from Beo pier with kayaking, swimming and lunch on board. The island also has Than Cong fort on a hill and a wartime hospital cave.
