Yen Tu is linked to the Truc Lam Zen school; a cable car climbs to Dong pagoda. It is about 50 km from Ha Long.
Van Don and Co To
Van Don airport has flights from HCMC and several provinces; Ha Long is about 50 km away. Cai Rong port in Van Don runs speedboats to Co To in about 1.5 hours and to Quan Lan in about 45 minutes. Co To has Hong Van beach, a flagpole and a lighthouse.
Ha Long, Bai Tu Long and Mong Cai
Ha Long Bay has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994, extended to the Cat Ba archipelago in 2023. Cruises depart from Tuan Chau port and the Ha Long wharf, visiting Sung Sot cave, Titop island, Thien Cung grotto and Cua Van fishing village. Bai Tu Long Bay in Van Don has fewer boats, with Quan Lan and Minh Chau islands, long beaches and tram forests.
The Hanoi – Hai Phong – Ha Long – Van Don – Mong Cai expressway runs the full route; Hanoi to Ha Long takes about 2.5 hours and Ha Long to Mong Cai about 2 hours. Van Don airport is about 50 km from Ha Long. Mong Cai has the Bac Luan border gate, the 17 km Tra Co beach and Sa Vi cape. In 2025 Quang Ninh kept its boundaries.
