Vinh Long to Tan Son Nhat is the shortest Delta-to-airport run, yet timing still goes wrong because of bridges and the city gateway. Since 2025, the enlarged Vĩnh Long province also covers Bến Tre and Trà Vinh. This guide sets out the route from each, what the Rạch Miễu 2 bridge (open since 19 August 2025) changed, and how to plan for early flights.
Cars cross the Mỹ Thuận or Mỹ Thuận 2 bridge and take the Mỹ Thuận – Trung Lương – HCMC expressway. It is about 135 km, usually 2.5–3 hours to the airport outside rush hour, and the most predictable option since nearly all of it is expressway.
The Rạch Miễu 2 bridge, open since 19 August 2025, has largely removed the jams at the old Rạch Miễu bridge, Bến Tre's long-standing bottleneck. From Bến Tre, cars cross into Đồng Tháp (former Tiền Giang) and join the Trung Lương – HCMC expressway; the airport is usually 2–2.5 hours away.
From Trà Vinh there are two ways: over the Cổ Chiên bridge to Bến Tre and on as above, or via central Vĩnh Long to the expressway. The driver picks one depending on time and bridge traffic; expect 3.5–4 hours.
Flights often land later than the ticket says. The driver tracks your landing, waits in the car park and meets you in arrivals; we charge no airport waiting fee. Tân Sơn Nhất allows only a short stop in the pickup lane, so keep your phone on.
Since 2025 the new Vĩnh Long includes former Bến Tre and Trà Vinh. Airport travellers often add a half day of sightseeing before or after the flight.
| Area | Sights | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Former Vĩnh Long | Vĩnh Long Temple of Literature; An Bình islet; Mang Thít brick and pottery kilns | An Bình has orchards and riverside homestays |
| Former Bến Tre | Phụng islet; coconut-candy workshops | Boat on the Tiền river, watch candy being made |
| Former Trà Vinh | Ba Om pond, Âng pagoda, Khmer Culture Museum | All three are walking distance apart |
Along the Thầy Cai canal and Cổ Chiên river at Mang Thít stand domed red-brick kilns for bricks and pottery, a landscape unique to Vĩnh Long. Many no longer fire, but they remain a favourite photo stop. An Bình islet faces former Vĩnh Long town, reached by ferry or bridge depending on route, with fruit orchards and homestays; children can cycle the village lanes.
By car, the driver takes you to the nearest accessible point; some lanes are for walking or motorbikes only.
Check airline rules before flying with fruit; in the car, keep it covered in the boot.
Travellers to Vĩnh Long, Bến Tre or Trà Vinh can fly to Tân Sơn Nhất or Cần Thơ. Bến Tre is nearer Ho Chi Minh City, so Tân Sơn Nhất is usually easier; for Trà Vinh and former Vĩnh Long, Cần Thơ may suit depending on schedules. Either way, send your flight number so the driver tracks the landing and waits through delays with no airport waiting fee. The delta has no passenger rail, so there is no sleeper option.
The last lunar month is when gardens prepare flowers and ornamental plants for Tết. Before Tết, traffic on 3–4 February 2027 runs mainly from the city to the delta, so morning airport runs are relatively clear. After Tết, the afternoon of the 5th day is the peak towards the city; with flights on 10–11 February, leave earlier than usual. Tết bookings need a deposit of about 10%.
| Group | Vehicle | Luggage |

| 1–3 people | 4–5 seat | About 3 suitcases |

Early flight with young children? Tell us so child seats are ready. Every quote gets 10% off; chauffeur prices include fuel and tolls.
For an evening flight from Tân Sơn Nhất, a Vĩnh Long family can sightsee in the morning and go straight to the airport:
| Time | Plan |
|---|---|
| 7:00 | Breakfast, Vĩnh Long Temple of Literature |
| 8:30 | Photos at the Mang Thít kilns |
| 10:30 | Through Bến Tre, buy coconut candy |
| 12:00 | Lunch on the way |
| 2:00 p.m. | Arrive at Tân Sơn Nhất for check-in |
Bags stay in the car and the driver waits at each stop. For international flights, allow extra check-in time.
When relatives fly in, send the flight number and terminal. The driver tracks the flight, waits in the car park and comes to the lane once they have their bags, with no airport waiting fee for delays. Family from home can ride along to meet them; count their seats on the outbound leg and choose a 7- or 16-seater. The route runs by expressway then highway; for young children, ask for child seats in advance.
Former Trà Vinh has many Khmer pagodas with curved roofs, carved columns and grounds shaded by dipterocarp trees. Ba Om pond is a rectangular lake ringed by old trees with exposed roots, surrounded by Khmer legends. Âng pagoda stands beside it, one of the region's old Khmer temples, and the Khmer Culture Museum displays instruments, costumes, ghe ngo boats and traditional tools.
In pagodas, dress modestly, remove shoes where indicated and do not touch statues or altars. Ask before photographing monks. Around Ok Om Bok, the full moon of the 10th lunar month, many local pagodas hold events and boat races take place in several places.
The three sites cluster south-west of former Trà Vinh town, walkable in about two hours. Families with afternoon flights can visit in the morning, then head to Tân Sơn Nhất or Cần Thơ to suit their flight. The driver waits near the pond with luggage locked in the car.
Since 1 July 2025, Bến Tre and Trà Vinh have been part of Vĩnh Long province. Old addresses still work for navigation, but add the new ward or commune and a map pin. Homes on river islands or small roads should allow a little extra time. Families seeing someone off can combine several pickups in one trip; send the address list in advance so the driver can order them.

For a Vinh Long transfer to Tan Son Nhat, send the full pickup address and flight details with your request. If adding pickups in Ben Tre or Tra Vinh, the visit order and total travel time need to be recalculated; these should not be treated as stops that have no effect on the schedule. Give passenger numbers at each stop, suitcase quantities and any child seating requirements. Before confirming, agree on meeting times, waiting conditions and charges for changes to pickup locations or flight times.
