Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Vinh Long combines former Vinh Long, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh.
The two-tier model (province, then commune or ward) applies from 1 July 2025, so old district names no longer appear on new documents. When booking for Vinh Long, old names, new names or a map pin all work.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
Vinh Long to Can Tho is about 35 km via the Can Tho bridge. Ben Tre is about 50 km and Tra Vinh about 65 km.

Take a boat from the town pier to the islet, visit orchards and eat at a garden house; the car waits ashore.
Mang Thit brick and pottery village
Along the Thay Cai canal and Co Chien River in Mang Thit stand hundreds of dome-shaped kilns; many no longer fire but keep their shape, and some still make red pottery. You can take a boat along the canal or stop the car at roadside viewpoints.
An Binh islet and the Temple of Literature
An Binh islet sits in the Tien River, a few minutes by boat from the old ferry pier in Vinh Long. It has rambutan and longan orchards, Tien Chau pagoda and many garden homestays with village cycling. Vinh Long also has a 19th-century Temple of Literature honouring Confucius and southern scholars such as Vo Truong Toan and Phan Thanh Gian.
Mang Thit pottery village along the Thay Cai canal has hundreds of domed brick and pottery kilns; many have stopped but keep their shape and are photographed. The Pham Hung memorial is in Long Ho.
Since 2025 the new Vinh Long province combines former Vinh Long, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh, with its centre in Vinh Long. Specialities include Binh Minh Nam Roi pomelo, Tam Binh king oranges, Binh Tan sweet potatoes and crispy fried elephant-ear fish. Vinh Long is about 135 km from HCMC via the Trung Luong – My Thuan expressway and the My Thuan bridge.
Tips for Vinh Long
Vinh Long market near the Co Chien River sells seasonal orchard fruit. Co Chien bridge links Vinh Long with former Tra Vinh and Ben Tre. Groups should book boats at An Binh pier in advance as weekends are busy. In the fruit season around May–August, rambutan, longan and mangosteen orchards open to visitors.
