Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Vinh Long combines former Vinh Long, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh.

Phung islet, Cho Lach and Ba Tri
Phung islet on the Tien River in Chau Thanh, linked to My Tho by boat, has the Coconut Religion site of Nguyen Thanh Nam, coconut candy kilns and rowing boats through nipa palm creeks. Cho Lach is a nursery and ornamental plant area with seedling markets on Highway 57 and rambutan and durian orchards open around May–July.
Ba Tri has the tomb of Nguyen Dinh Chieu, the blind 19th-century patriotic poet, and the Vam Ho bird sanctuary. Dinh Thuy in Mo Cay Nam is where the 1960 Dong Khoi uprising began. Con Bung beach in Thanh Phu has silty flats and casuarinas, mostly for picnics. Since 2025 Ben Tre belongs to the new Vinh Long province.
Ben Tre is coconut country, with coconut candy, My Long rice paper, Son Doc puffed rice cakes, coconut rice, coconut worms and crafts from shells and husk. From HCMC it is about 85 km via the expressway to Trung Luong and the Rach Mieu bridge.
