Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Dong Thap combines former Dong Thap and Tien Giang, with its centre in My Tho.
The two-tier model (province, then commune or ward) applies from 1 July 2025, so old district names no longer appear on new documents. When booking for My Tho, old names, new names or a map pin all work.

Cross the Rach Mieu bridge to Ben Tre, about 15 km, for coconut candy workshops and orchards, then back to HCMC.
Vinh Trang pagoda and markets
Vinh Trang pagoda dates from the 19th century, with a façade blending Asian and European styles and large outdoor Buddha statues. My Tho market on the Tien River sells fruit, fish and dried goods. The tourist pier on 30/4 street has boats to the Dragon, Unicorn, Tortoise and Phoenix islets.
Ben Tre and Cai Be from My Tho
From My Tho, the Rach Mieu bridge reaches Ben Tre in about 15 minutes, then Cho Lach with nurseries and flower gardens. Cai Be is about 45 km on Highway 1 with its floating market and old houses. Dong Tam snake farm, about 10 km away, raises snakes for venom research. Since 2025 My Tho is the administrative centre of the new Dong Thap province.

My Tho has Vinh Trang pagoda from the 19th century, mixing Asian and European styles, with large Buddha statues. The tourist pier on 30/4 street runs boats to Thoi Son and Lan islets with don ca tai tu music. My Tho noodle soup has chewy noodles and bone broth with shrimp and pork. From HCMC it is about 70 km on the HCMC – Trung Luong expressway, about 1.5 hours.
