Tra Vinh by car: Ba Om pond, Khmer pagodas and a 1–2 day trip from HCMC. Former Tra Vinh is now part of Vinh Long province (merged from Vinh Long, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh in 2025). It is about 130–150 km from Ho Chi Minh City, usually 3–3.5 hours via the HCMC – Trung Luong expressway and Ben Tre.
Take the HCMC – Trung Luong expressway, cross Rach Mieu bridge into Ben Tre, then Highway 60 over Co Chien bridge to Tra Vinh. See driving to the Mekong Delta and HCMC to Ben Tre private car.
From around December the Mekong Delta enters the dry season. The Khmer Ok Om Bok festival usually falls on the full moon of the tenth lunar month, with ngo boat races; check the official local schedule before you go.
At pagodas, dress modestly, remove shoes in the main hall and keep quiet.
Bun nuoc leo noodle soup, Tra Cuon sticky rice cakes and Cau Ke macapuno coconut are worth trying.
Families: a 4-seater or 7-seater. Temple or company groups: a 16-seater or 29-seater. See also car rental in HCMC and car rental in Can Tho.
For Tra Vinh you can choose a car with driver (fuel and tolls included) or self-drive, including VinFast EVs. Every quote is 10% off.
Since 2025, former Tra Vinh is part of Vinh Long province.
Yes; stay a night if you also want Ba Dong beach.

Tra Vinh joined the enlarged Vinh Long province on 1 July 2025, together with Ben Tre. The Khmer heritage is what most visitors come for: Ao Ba Om pond with its old trees, and many Khmer pagodas around the city. From Saigon, the usual route crosses the Mekong at the Co Chien or My Thuan bridges. Visit pagodas in modest clothing and ask before photographing monks. See Mekong Delta price list and Ben Tre travel guide.
If your group is leaving Ho Chi Minh City for a day trip, choose the main reason for going before you add more stops. For travellers interested in Khmer heritage, Ao Ba Om and Ang Pagoda can form the core of the visit. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism lists Ang Pagoda in the area around Ao Ba Om. Send the exact entrance or meeting point to the driver instead of relying on the destination name alone. Some listings use older administrative addresses, so a map pin and a venue contact are useful alongside the name. Ao Ba Om in the national tourism database and Ang Pagoda in the national tourism database.
Allow time for a walk, lunch and a break rather than asking the driver to move the car after each nearby visit. If you also want to visit a beach or make a second stop outside the city area, decide which visit you would shorten if the road journey takes longer than expected. For an overnight trip, share the hotel address and give us the start and finish times for each day. An overnight stay can make it easier to separate sightseeing from the longer road legs.
If you have older relatives or young children, tell us how far they are comfortable walking from the drop-off point. Ask the venue or accommodation where visitors can enter by car and which sections are easier to walk. If someone needs a folding wheelchair or a stroller, tell us the dimensions and whether it needs to stay with the group at each stop. Share any fixed meal or check-in time when you ask for the quote. That makes it easier to plan the vehicle pickup around the group's needs.
For example, a family might ask for a morning visit near Ao Ba Om, lunch and one more stop before returning to Ho Chi Minh City. They could leave that last stop optional rather than give up time at the main visit. A small group with room in its schedule could instead stay overnight and plan a separate outing the next morning. If you plan to visit during a festival, check the organiser’s current dates and access arrangements before you choose the meeting point. Tell us which part of the visit depends on a fixed time.
For a self-drive rental, plan where you will park at each main stop, keep the pickup and return windows in mind, and ask about the rental terms for the route. If you are considering an EV, discuss how you will charge the assigned car and where you can stop if your first choice is unavailable. If you book with a driver, confirm where the driver should wait and how the group will contact them after a visit. Ask how an extra stop or a later departure would affect the agreed itinerary and price.
For a useful quote, send the pickup pin, group size, luggage, planned stops and the latest time you need to be back. Mention whether you are travelling one way, returning on the same day or keeping a car for more than one day. Request a Tra Vinh trip quote.
