A car that will not start in a car park is a different problem from a breakdown beside fast traffic. When requesting help, first tell us where you are, whether everyone is safe and whether the vehicle can move. Repair or replacement comes after that assessment.
Share a location pin, direction of travel, nearby road marker and a dashboard photo if safe to take. Keep the contract reference and registration number on your phone. Agree towing or workshop work with the rental company before authorising it, while following any emergency directions from the authorities.
Use hazard lights, slow down and reach a safe stopping place if the car remains controllable. Keep out of live traffic and do not attempt repairs in an exposed position. For a collision, injury or fire risk, call emergency services and follow their instructions before dealing with the rental paperwork.
Once safe, call the support number in the agreement. Photograph warnings, location and damage only when safe. Confirm who arranges recovery, where the vehicle goes and how the journey can continue. Assistance timing must be assessed for the actual location.
A dashboard message in a car park differs from an immobile vehicle on the road. Tell support what the vehicle can still do instead of diagnosing the fault. If replacement is arranged, confirm the transfer of people, bags and documents, and retain receipts for any agreed expenses.
Safe current location, vehicle registration, symptoms and people needing onward travel.

After a minor incident, the evidence you collect in the first ten minutes matters more than anything else. Film a slow walk around both vehicles, then close-ups of damage, number plates and road markings. Photograph the other driver's licence and registration if they agree. Note the time and location, and send everything to us before moving the car unless it blocks traffic. The walk-around video you took at pickup helps show which marks were already there. See pickup and return checklist and dealing with police.
