Thai Binh by car: Keo pagoda, Tran temple and Dong Chau beach in 1–2 days. In the 2025 reorganisation Thai Binh merged into the new Hung Yen province; the sights keep their familiar names. Keo pagoda is about 110 km from Hanoi, around 2.5 hours, and Dong Chau beach is further at about 140–145 km.
From Hanoi, take the Phap Van – Cau Gie expressway and turn towards Hung Yen and Thai Binh; the delta roads are flat but pass through many villages, so speeds stay moderate. Keo pagoda and Dong Chau are about 50 km apart, which suits 2 days and a night.
Autumn and winter come after the harvest: open fields and cool air, good for temple visits. Dong Chau is quiet now, nice for beach walks, the clam flats and casuarina woods in the afternoon. Keo pagoda's autumn festival is in the ninth lunar month; check that year's lunar calendar if you want to attend.
Quynh Coi fish soup and banh cay sesame cake are often mentioned in Thai Binh. Country lanes are narrow, so slow down through village markets. The sea is shallow with muddy stretches; keep children close.
Family temple trips: a 7-seater. Hometown groups: a 16-seater or 29-seater. Pair it with Nam Dinh across the Red River; Hanoi pickup: car rental in Hanoi.
For your Thai Binh trip, every quote is 10% off. With self-drive, fuel and tolls are on you, and petrol or diesel is your choice. Contracts are signed by both parties.
Since 2025 the former Thai Binh area is part of Hung Yen province.
Yes; about 2.5 hours each way, leaving time for the Tran temple too.

Keo pagoda fits the first morning, with lunch in town and the Tran temple in the afternoon. Dong Chau beach is further out, so stay one night if you want both the pagoda and the coast without rushing.
Wear modest clothing at pagodas and temples, and bring sun protection for the beach. Seafood stalls near the coast are busier at weekends, so arrive before the evening crowd.
See Nam Dinh by car and Bac Ninh day trip.
