A common worry for owners when travelling with a pet is being turned away when the car arrives, or reaching the hotel only to find it does not take animals. Many of these situations come from not agreeing the details at the start. This overview covers which way to travel with a pet, what to agree with the company before booking, how to plan the destination, and where to find our detailed guides.

| Option | Works when | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Private car with driver | Intercity trips, families, pets that need their own break rhythm | Tell us the number and size of pets and the crate |
| Self-drive | You are comfortable driving long distances and want full control | Ask about pet conditions when booking; the driver cannot also watch the pet |
| Ride-hailing | Short city hops with a small pet in a carrier | Acceptance varies by car; the return trip is uncertain |
| Scheduled coaches and sleeper buses | Travelling alone with light luggage | Pets are often restricted in the passenger cabin; ask the operator |
For intercity trips, a private car with driver usually means fewer surprises: you sit next to your pet, stop when it needs to, and there are no other passengers to consider.
Give the number of animals, rough weight and carrier size. A small pet in a shoulder bag and a thirty-kilo pet with a large crate need very different cars.
Agree whether it travels in a carrier on the rear seat, in the cargo area, or in a seat-belt harness. The front seat and the front passenger's lap are not options.
On long trips, say how often your pet needs to stop. Expressway stops are only possible at service areas, so the plan follows their locations.
Ask what is expected regarding mats, what happens if your pet is sick or has an accident in the car, and whether any extra charge applies. Get the answer in a message or in the contract.
When you book with us, the contract is signed by both parties and details the trip. Note that a pet is travelling in the request so the right car and driver are assigned from the start.

How to measure a crate and lay out the cabin is in our guide to choosing a car for a large pet.
Before you confirm the car, check that the hotel, resort or homestay accepts pets, any weight limits, where pets may go and whether there is a surcharge. Many places keep only a few pet-friendly rooms, so book early, especially for holidays and Tết.
Some beaches, attractions, pagodas and restaurants do not allow pets. Alternate pet-friendly stops with places the family visits indoors so someone always stays with your pet. Never leave it alone in a parked car, even with the windows open a crack.
In southern Vietnam's dry season, a parked car heats up fast and midday tarmac can burn paws. Travel early or late in the day and take breaks in the shade. In the rainy season, pack towels and spare mats.
To transport a pet out of a province, register for quarantine with the provincial veterinary authority where you depart before travelling. Trips within the same province or city are not covered by this requirement. Bring a current vaccination record, especially for rabies.
Cars are booked up early for Tết, and the Tết deposit is usually 10%. Reserve early and mention your pet when you book. Also check the veterinary office's holiday schedule so you get the quarantine certificate in time, as many offices close for several days.
For confident long-distance drivers, a self-drive car gives full control over timing, stops and route. A pet adds a few things to plan for compared with an ordinary self-drive trip.
The driver must concentrate on the road. If the pet panics, vomits or scratches at the carrier, it is the person sitting next to it who deals with it. Travelling alone with a pet on a long route, a car with driver is worth considering.
Self-drive quotes do not include fuel, so budget for it separately. If you rent a VinFast electric car for self-drive, plan charging stops to coincide with your pet's breaks so the waiting time is put to use.
To show how this works in practice, here is how a family of four with a medium-sized pet might arrange a trip home to the Mekong Delta by private car with driver.

Not every pet travels in a large crate. Rabbits, hamsters, birds, turtles and reptiles each need a slightly different setup, and they are often more sensitive to temperature and noise than larger animals.
Use a small, well-ventilated carrier with a familiar bedding layer and a little hay or dry food. These animals overheat easily, so ask the driver to keep the cabin cool and avoid placing the carrier in direct sun through a side window. A water bottle that clips to the carrier is less messy than a bowl on a moving car.
Move birds in a travel cage rather than their full home cage, and cover part of it with a light cloth to reduce stress from passing traffic and light changes. Remove loose items such as swings that could knock against the bird when the car brakes. Keep the cage away from strong air-conditioning drafts.
Reptiles rely on outside temperature, so a container with a lid, some insulation and a towel helps keep conditions steady. Avoid leaving the container in a closed boot. Ask your vet or a specialist shop how long your animal can comfortably stay in a travel container.
Whatever the animal, mention it in the booking request with the carrier size. It helps the driver plan where the carrier goes and how to set the air conditioning.
Having these answers in writing before the trip means the car journey ends somewhere ready for your pet.
English-speaking drivers are available on request; mention it when you book. If you arrived in Vietnam with your pet, keep the import health papers and vaccination records together, as they may be useful if you later travel between provinces. Write your destination address in Vietnamese in your booking message, and save a local vet's number at each stop on your route.
On a long trip with only one adult, a car with driver lets you sit beside your pet. Self-drive works when someone else can look after the pet; ask about pet conditions when booking a self-drive car.
At the time of booking. It affects which vehicle is assigned, so earlier is easier.
Cost depends on the vehicle, route and duration. Send full details through the quick quote form; quotes with a driver include fuel and tolls.
Confirm accommodation before booking the car. If you only find out on arrival, the driver can take you to another place that has confirmed it accepts pets.
Yes. The contract is signed by both parties and an 8% VAT invoice is available.
