A Da Nang to Hoi An private car is now simply a ride within one city: since 2025 Quang Nam has merged into Da Nang, so Hoi An is part of Da Nang. The old town is in Hoi An ward and Cam Thanh is in Hoi An Dong ward, about 30 km from Da Nang airport. The Da Nang People's Committee issued a 2026 – 2030 plan to develop tourism in the south of the city. It focuses on 7 localities: Tam Ky, Quang Phu, Huong Tra and Ban Thach wards and Tam Xuan, Tam Hai and Phu Ninh communes. Highlights include the Ky Anh tunnels, the Vietnamese Heroic Mother monument, the Dam river reed beds and Phu Ninh Lake. A good option if you have been to Hoi An several times and want to drive further south.
This coconut palm forest in Hoi An Dong ward is famous for basket-boat rides and is a short drive from the old town. Go in the morning to avoid the heat.
Hoi An still tops the list. In 2025 it ranked 6th in Travel + Leisure's top 10 cities in the world. Evenings are the most beautiful time, with lanterns along the Hoai River.

In Hoi An, two well-known spots are Banh Mi Phuong (2B Phan Chau Trinh) and Com Ga Ba Buoi chicken rice (22 Phan Chau Trinh), both inside the old town. Casual dishes usually cost a few tens of thousands of VND. Opening hours differ between sources, so check Google Maps first.
From Da Nang airport, cross the Dragon Bridge or Tran Thi Ly Bridge to the coastal Vo Nguyen Giap – Truong Sa road, pass My Khe and Non Nuoc, then enter Hoi An. The coastal Vo Chi Cong road continues from Hoi An to Tam Ky and Chu Lai if you want to go further south.
