About Vinh Phuc

Tam Dao and Tay Thien
Tam Dao hill station, at about 900 m, was built by the French as a summer retreat in the early 20th century; its stone church and summit TV tower remain. Tay Thien has the Truc Lam Zen monastery and the Mother Goddess temple, reached by cable car or stone steps.
The road to Tam Dao has many hairpins; 4- and 7-seaters manage easily, while 29-seaters and above should check conditions first. Summer weekends are busy, so book rooms and cars early.
Tam Dao, Tay Thien and Dai Lai
Tam Dao is a hill station at about 900 m founded by the French in the early 20th century, with a stone church, Silver Falls, Heaven Gate and a TV tower. Truc Lam Tay Thien monastery and the Tay Thien Mother Goddess temple lie at the foot of Tam Dao, with a cable car to the upper temple. Dai Lai lake in Phuc Yen has golf and weekend resorts. Binh Son tower in Lap Thach is a Tran-era brick tower about 16 m tall.
Since 2025 Vinh Phuc is part of the new Phu Tho province. Vinh Yen is about 30 km from Noi Bai airport and about 55 km from Hanoi. Specialities include Tam Dao chayote, Lap Thach fermented fish, longan-shaped sweets and Tam Duong mung bean cake. In summer Tam Dao is busy at weekends and the road up has many bends.
Tips for Vinh Phuc
Tay Thien holds a spring festival, reached on foot or by cable car. The Tam Dao stone church dates from about 1906. The road up is misty in the morning and drivers use fog lights.
