About Tam Dao
Tam Dao, formerly in Vinh Phuc (now Phu Tho), is a hill station about 80 km from Hanoi. The road up to the town has many bends.

Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 former Vinh Phuc joined the new Phu Tho (with former Hoa Binh). Tam Dao is now in Phu Tho.
After 1 July 2025 the district level was removed; new addresses show only the commune or ward and the province or city. Locals and drivers still use old names, so for Tam Dao write your address as you know it or share a map location.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
From Hanoi it takes 1 h 45 – 2 h, ending with about 13 km of mountain road. 4- and 7-seaters and 9–11 seat limousines handle the pass; 29-seaters need notice.
Tay Thien
Tay Thien monastery and Mother Goddess temple sit at the foot of Tam Dao with a cable car; easy to combine.
Walks and views
From town, stone steps climb to the TV tower on Thien Nhi peak with views over the Vinh Phuc plain; Silver Falls is about 1 km on foot. The French-era stone church stands in the centre. Summer, about May–August, is cool; winter is cold and foggy.
Food and stays
Tam Dao is known for garlic-fried chayote, hill chicken, stream fish and grilled local pork. Hotels and homestays cluster around the square and stone church; summer weekends and holidays fill up. From Hanoi take the Noi Bai – Lao Cai expressway to Vinh Yen, then about 25 km up the pass. Day-trippers should leave before 4 pm to drive the pass in daylight.
