Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province is the new airport for the Ho Chi Minh City region. As of late October 2026 it is not yet in commercial operation; under the plan of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), commercial flights are scheduled to start on 24 December 2026. Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Dong Nai province combines former Dong Nai and former Binh Phuoc, with its administrative centre in Bien Hoa. Districts no longer exist; the airport lies in the area of former Long Thanh district. Locals still say "Long Thanh", "Nhon Trach" and "Bien Hoa", so use old names or the new commune and ward names as you prefer.
Vung Tau, Ba Ria and Ho Tram are now part of the new Ho Chi Minh City (former Ba Ria–Vung Tau). For beach trips from Long Thanh you can still write "Vung Tau".
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
The airport sits beside the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway. From central HCMC it is about 40 km, usually 50–60 minutes outside rush hour; evening peaks can be slower at bridges and interchanges. In the first phase the terminal opens its central area and west wing; some facilities such as the car park continue to be finished in Q1 2027, so pick-up points may change. Your driver will confirm the exact meeting point before landing.
In the first phase Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet plan to move some domestic and international flights to Long Thanh, while the bulk of flights remain at Tan Son Nhat. Check which airport your ticket shows (SGN is Tan Son Nhat) before booking the car.
Straight from the airport to the coast
Long Thanh is close to the coast: Vung Tau is about 70 km and Ho Tram about 75 km, without driving into central HCMC. Families can check in to a resort the same afternoon.
Business trips to industrial parks
Many industrial parks surround Long Thanh, Nhon Trach and Bien Hoa. A 4- or 7-seat car can meet you and go straight to the factory; day hire covers several stops, with the driver waiting between meetings.
