About Dong Nai

Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Dong Nai combines former Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc, with its centre in Bien Hoa.
Since 1 July 2025 local government has two tiers: province or city, and commune or ward. Districts no longer exist, but old names are still used every day. When booking in Dong Nai, write your address the way you know it or send a map pin; drivers understand both old and new names.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
HCMC to Bien Hoa is about 30 km; Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh about 45 km by expressway. Cat Tien is about 150 km from HCMC.

Cat Tien National Park
Cat Tien National Park has tropical forest, Crocodile Lake and a primate rescue centre. Visitors cross the Dong Nai River by ferry to the park headquarters; stay a night to reach Crocodile Lake and join a night safari. From Bien Hoa it is about 3 hours via Highway 20.
Cat Tien, Bien Hoa and Long Thanh
Cat Tien National Park in Tan Phu, about 150 km from HCMC, is entered by ferry across the Dong Nai River. Visitors hike, cycle, visit Crocodile Lake and take night safaris. The Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve includes Tri An lake. Giang Dien falls in Trang Bom, about 20 km from Bien Hoa, is a weekend picnic spot.
Bien Hoa has the Tran Bien Temple of Literature founded in 1715, Pho islet and Buu Phong pagoda on a rocky hill. Long Thanh International Airport is under construction in former Long Thanh district and not yet in commercial operation; ACV plans to open it on 24/12/2026. Since 2025 the new Dong Nai includes former Binh Phuoc, centred in Bien Hoa.
Specialities include Tan Trieu pomelo, Bien Hoa raw fish salad, Long Khanh rambutan, durian and Binh Phuoc cashews. The HCMC – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway serves Bien Hoa and Long Khanh.
