Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Khanh Hoa combines former Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan, centred in Nha Trang.
The two-tier model (province, then commune or ward) applies from 1 July 2025, so old district names no longer appear on new documents. When booking for Khanh Hoa, old names, new names or a map pin all work.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
Cam Ranh to Nha Trang takes about 45 minutes along Nguyen Tat Thanh. Nha Trang to Phan Rang is about 105 km.
North and south
The north has Doc Let and Van Phong; the south has Vinh Hy, Po Klong Garai towers and Nam Cuong dunes.
Nha Trang islands and bay
Nha Trang bay holds Hon Mun, Hon Tam and Hon Mot islands; boats leave from Cau Da port. Hon Mun is a marine reserve, good for snorkelling in the clear-water season about March–September. The car drops you at the port and collects you on return.
On land are the Oceanography Institute, Long Son pagoda and Thap Ba hot springs. Travellers to Da Lat take Khanh Le pass (Route 27C), about 3.5 hours.
Nha Trang, Cam Ranh and Ninh Thuan
Nha Trang has the Po Nagar towers on Cu Lao hill (about 8th–13th centuries), the Mountain church, Long Son pagoda with its white Buddha and the Oceanographic Institute at Cau Da. Island trips visit Hon Mun, Hon Tam and Hon Mot; VinWonders on Hon Tre is reached by cable car or boat. Mud baths operate at Thap Ba and I-resort. Pham Van Dong road leads to Doc Let beach and Ninh Hoa along the sea.
The Cam Ranh peninsula has Bai Dai beach, resorts and Cam Ranh airport, about 35 km from Nha Trang. Binh Ba is a lobster island reached by boat from Ba Ngoi port. Since 2025 the new Khanh Hoa includes former Ninh Thuan, reaching Vinh Hy bay, the Po Klong Garai towers in Phan Rang and the Nam Cuong dunes. Specialities include Ninh Hoa fermented pork, fish noodle soup, banh can, bird's nest and Binh Ba lobster.
The Cam Lam – Vinh Hao and Nha Trang – Cam Lam expressways shorten Nha Trang to Phan Rang. Khanh Le pass links Nha Trang with Da Lat in about 135 km.
