About Khai Dinh Tomb
Khai Dinh Tomb sits on Chau Chu mountain about 10 km from central Hue, famous for its ceramic mosaics. It is usually visited with the tombs of Tu Duc and Minh Mang.

How Khai Dinh differs from the other royal tombs
The tomb was built from 1920 to 1931, taking 11 years although Emperor Khai Dinh reigned only from 1916 to 1925. It blends East and West: reinforced concrete, slate roofs and Gothic-style gates, while inside Thien Dinh palace is covered in mosaics of coloured porcelain and glass, with a gilded bronze statue of the emperor under a canopy. About 127 steps lead from the gate to the main hall, lined with stone mandarins, elephants and horses.
The tomb is part of the Complex of Hue Monuments, inscribed by UNESCO in 1993. Tickets are sold at the gate, and combined tickets cover several sites.
From central Hue to the tomb
The tomb is about 10 km south of central Hue via Minh Mang or Khai Dinh road, roughly 20 minutes. Parking is at the foot of the tomb, and the driver waits during your 45–60 minute visit. Tu Duc's tomb is about 5 km away, and Minh Mang's about 10 km further towards the Perfume River.
