Nguyen dynasty tombs
The Complex of Hue Monuments was inscribed by UNESCO in 1993. Minh Mang's tomb is symmetrical around lakes; Tu Duc's has Luu Khiem lake and a water pavilion; Khai Dinh's is decorated with porcelain and glass. Each is 7–12 km from the centre, so a private car covers several in a day.
Hue royal court music was inscribed in 2003; hear it at Duyet Thi Duong theatre in the Imperial City or on evening boats on the Perfume River.
The Citadel, tombs and coast
The Hue Citadel has the Ngo Mon gate, Thai Hoa palace, the Forbidden City, the Mieu temple, Hien Lam pavilion and the Nine Dynastic Urns. The Hue monuments have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The tombs of Minh Mang, Tu Duc and Khai Dinh lie south, about 7–12 km from the Citadel. Thien Mu pagoda by the Perfume River has the seven-storey Phuoc Duyen tower.
Since 2025 Hue is a centrally run city covering all of former Thua Thien Hue. The Tam Giang lagoon has Chuon lagoon, fish markets and Hai Ha bridge. Thuan An beach is about 13 km from the centre. Lang Co and Chan May bay in the south border Hai Van pass and link to Da Nang through the Hai Van tunnel. Bach Ma National Park has Do Quyen falls and Five Lakes.
Hue specialities include bun bo, com hen, banh beo, banh nam, banh khoai, Hue desserts and sesame candy. Hue court songs are performed on dragon boats on the Perfume River in the evening.
