About Hoan Kiem Lake
Hoan Kiem Lake (Ho Guom) is the heart of Hanoi, next to the Old Quarter, Ngoc Son Temple and the Opera House. It is a familiar pickup point for guests staying in the Old Quarter who are going to Noi Bai Airport, Ninh Binh, Ha Long or other parts of the city.

Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the area around the lake is Hoan Kiem ward, Hanoi.
The two-tier model (province, then commune or ward) applies from 1 July 2025, so old district names no longer appear on new documents. When booking for Hoan Kiem Lake, old names, new names or a map pin all work.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
Noi Bai to the lake takes about 45–60 minutes via Nhat Tan bridge. During walking-street hours cars stop outside the closed zone; the driver confirms the meeting point.

The Old Quarter around the lake

Turtle Tower stands in the lake, with the Pen Tower and Ink Slab at the temple gate. South of the lake are the Ly Thai To statue, the lakeside post office and Ba Kieu temple; to the west is St Joseph's Cathedral on Nha Chung, built in 1886.
From Friday to Sunday evening the streets around the lake are pedestrian-only; drivers pick up at Tran Hung Dao, Ly Thuong Kiet or Hang Bai. The Old Quarter to the north has Hang Dao, Hang Bac, Dong Xuan market and the 87 Ma May house. The Opera House and National Museum of History are about 1 km away. Since 2025 the area is in Hoan Kiem ward.
Food nearby includes Bat Dan pho, Hang Manh bun cha, Cha Ca La Vong, Trang Tien ice cream and egg coffee. Noi Bai is about 28 km away, usually 40–60 minutes.
Planning notes for Ho Guom
Hoan Kiem lake is about 2 km from Hanoi station, about 2.5 km from the Temple of Literature and about 3 km from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Hoa Lo prison is about 1 km away. Early mornings bring residents exercising around the lake.
