Can you rent a car for Tet at a fair price and still be sure of getting one? Yes, if you understand where Tet prices come from. At year-end, weddings, company parties and trips home all land in the same few weeks, and fuel costs are higher, so rental prices are usually above normal. You cannot change the market, but you can avoid choices that push your bill up. Here are seven practical tips.

        1. Book early and hold the car with a deposit

Closer to Tet, the right-sized cars run out. For Tet bookings the holding deposit is usually 10%, and deposit and refund terms are written into a detailed contract signed by both parties. See dates in Tet 2027 car rental.

        2. Avoid the 2–3 busiest days before Tet

The days just before New Year's Eve are when the whole city heads home. Leaving a day or two earlier makes cars easier to find and roads clearer. The same applies to the last day of the holiday on the way back.

        3. Pick the right size

        People and luggage Car
1–3 passengers, up to about 3 suitcases 4-seater
4–5 passengers, up to about 4 suitcases 7-seater
Several families, lots of Tet gifts 16-seater or limousine van

One 16-seater for two families is often better value than two 7-seaters.

        4. Combine trips into one booking

Need a car to go home, visit relatives and go to the pagoda? Send the whole itinerary in one request; one continuous booking is usually cheaper than separate trips.

        5. Compare one-way and return

One-way trips at Tet often include the empty run back. If you will return after a few days, ask for a return quote. See one-way or return from HCMC.

        6. Choose petrol or electric wisely

On self-drive you pay for fuel. You can choose petrol or diesel when booking: diesel usually uses fewer litres on long trips home but currently costs more per litre than petrol, and petrol is smoother in town. VinFast EVs are available for self-drive if you mainly stay in the city and can charge. Chauffeured prices already include fuel and tolls.

        7. Use the 10% discount on every quote

All our quotes currently get 10% off, Tet included. Use the quick-quote form or the price page to see the discounted figure.
