Ly Son island: drive to Sa Ky port, take the boat, and why you need spare days in the windy season. Ly Son is a special zone of Quang Ngai province (merged from Quang Ngai and Kon Tum in 2025). Cars do not go to the island; you drive to Sa Ky port, then take a speedboat about 18 nautical miles offshore.

Getting to Sa Ky port

From Da Nang, take the Da Nang – Quang Ngai expressway to Sa Ky port; the port is not far from central Quang Ngai. See Da Nang to Quang Ngai private car. Arrive well before the sailing for check-in and bring ID.

When to go, up to Tết 2027

From about October to early the next year is the north-east monsoon season. When the sea is rough, the port authority suspends the Sa Ky – Ly Son route, sometimes for many days. Up to Tết 2027, follow port announcements, keep your plan flexible and allow spare days; if boats stop, you can switch to sights on the Quang Ngai mainland.

Food and tips
