The route to Dong pagoda
From Giai Oan, the first cable car reaches Hoa Yen pagoda and the second goes near the An Ky Sinh statue; from there it is a 30–45 minute walk to Dong pagoda. Hiking the whole route from the base is several thousand stone steps and takes 4–5 hours.

Yen Tu is in Phuong Dong ward, Uong Bi, about 125 km from Hanoi. King Tran Nhan Tong practised here and founded the Truc Lam Zen school. From Giai Oan pagoda, visitors take two cable car sections up near Hoa Yen and Mot Mai pagodas, then walk to the bronze Dong pagoda at about 1,068 m. Walking the whole route takes about 4–6 hours each way.
Along the way are the Hue Quang stupa holding relics, bamboo groves and pine trees over 700 years old. Truc Lam Yen Tu monastery and the Yen Tu cultural village at the foot have wooden architecture. The Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac complex was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2025.
Wear grippy shoes and carry a light raincoat as the summit is often misty. Many groups pair Yen Tu with Ha Long or Ba Vang pagoda in Uong Bi on the same day.
