About Kien Giang

Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new An Giang combines former An Giang and Kien Giang, with its centre in Rach Gia.
After 1 July 2025 the district level was removed; new addresses show only the commune or ward and the province or city. Locals and drivers still use old names, so for Kien Giang write your address as you know it or share a map location.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle

Rach Gia and Ha Tien
Rach Gia to Ha Tien is about 90 km, about 2 hours. Ha Tien has Thach Dong, Mui Nai and the Mac Cuu tombs.
Nam Du and Hon Son islands
The Nam Du archipelago has about twenty islands, Cu Tron being the largest; Hon Son has Bang beach and Ma Thien Lanh peak. Speedboats from Rach Gia take about 1 h 15 to Hon Son and 2.5 hours to Nam Du. Book boat tickets ahead and tell us the time so the car can reach the pier.
Phu Quoc, Ha Tien and Nam Du
Phu Quoc has Sao, Khem and Truong beaches, Grand World, the Hon Thom cable car at An Thoi, the Phu Quoc prison, Ham Ninh fishing village and fish-sauce barrel houses. Ha Tien, about 90 km from Rach Gia, has the Mac Cuu tombs, Phu Dung pagoda, Thach Dong cave and Mui Nai beach. Nam Du and Hon Son islands are 2–3 hours by fast boat from Rach Gia, finest in the dry season.
Since 2025 Kien Giang is part of the new An Giang province, with Rach Gia as the provincial centre. Rach Gia has the Nguyen Trung Truc temple, a reclaimed seafront and ferries to Phu Quoc. Specialities include Kien Giang fish noodle soup, Phu Quoc fish sauce and pepper, seafood and dried fish. U Minh Thuong has a national park of melaleuca on peat.
Phu Quoc has cars on the island linking the airport, Duong Dong and An Thoi; for the mainland take a boat to Rach Gia or Ha Tien and continue by car.
