Since 1 July 2025 former Ha Giang joined the new Tuyen Quang province. "Ha Giang" is still used for the region.

The Ha Giang loop
The classic loop is Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng – Meo Vac, about 350 km over 3–4 days. Quan Ba Heaven Gate overlooks the Twin Mountains; Dong Van has its old quarter and the Vuong family mansion; Lung Cu has a flag tower at the northern tip. Ma Pi Leng pass looks down on the Nho Que River. The Dong Van Karst Plateau has been a UNESCO Global Geopark since 2010.
The roads have many passes; recent 7- and 16-seaters suit them and experienced drivers stop at viewpoints. Buckwheat flowers bloom about October–November.

From Hanoi Ha Giang city is about 300 km, about 6 hours via the Noi Bai – Lao Cai expressway and Highway 2. Since 2025 Ha Giang is part of the new Tuyen Quang. Dong Van market runs on Sunday mornings.
