Ban Gioc waterfall in Dam Thuy, Trung Khanh, about 85 km from Cao Bang city, is around 300 m wide, with bamboo rafts to its base. Nguom Ngao cave, about 3 km away, has stalactites and concrete paths. Pac Bo relic site in Ha Quang has Coc Bo cave, Lenin stream and Karl Marx peak, where President Ho Chi Minh returned in 1941.
Thang Hen lake in Tra Linh is a chain of lakes among karst peaks, blue in the wet season. Ma Phuc pass and Khau Coc Cha pass (the 14-level pass) have winding sections photographed from above. Cao Bang has been a UNESCO Global Geopark since 2018. In 2025 Cao Bang kept its provincial boundaries.
From Hanoi Cao Bang is about 280 km, 5–6 hours via the Bac Giang – Lang Son expressway then Highway 4A or 3. Specialities include seven-spice roast duck, rolled rice cakes in broth, Trung Khanh chestnuts and fried banh ap chao. Phja Thap village in Quang Hoa makes handmade incense.
