Soc Trang has Kinh, Khmer and Chinese communities. Ok Om Bok and ngo boat races on the Maspero River take place on the full moon of the tenth lunar month. Nga Nam floating market, where five canals meet, trades in the morning. The Khmer Culture Museum faces Kh'leang pagoda. Since 2025 Soc Trang belongs to Can Tho city, about 60 km from its centre.
Planning notes for Soc Trang
Soc Trang is about 230 km from HCMC via the expressway to Can Tho and Highway 1, roughly 4.5–5 hours. Vung Thom banh pia, sausage and banh in are typical gifts; banh pia workshops show the layered pastry being made. Ho Be beach in Vinh Chau has protective forest, and Vinh Chau is a red onion area. Tran De port runs fast boats to Con Dao in about 2.5 hours, so many guests drive to Tran De and continue to the island.
