About Quang Tri

Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
From Hue, a one-day DMZ tour of the Citadel, Hien Luong and Vinh Moc is about 250 km round trip. Dong Hoi to Dong Ha is about 95 km.

Cemeteries and the Truong Son road
The Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery in Gio Linh and Route 9 Cemetery in Dong Ha are visited by many families. The western Ho Chi Minh road runs through Khe Sanh, with the Ta Con airbase relic and Lao Bao border gate to Laos. Khe Sanh is about 65 km from Dong Ha.
The Citadel, Hien Luong and Vinh Moc
Quang Tri Citadel in Quang Tri town was the site of the 81-day battle of 1972, now a memorial park with a central monument. Lantern-release piers line the Thach Han River. Hien Luong bridge and the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel marked the division of the country from 1954 to 1975, with a flag tower and exhibition.
Vinh Moc tunnels in Vinh Linh run nearly 2 km on three levels, down to about 23 m, where villagers lived underground for years. Truong Son National Cemetery in Gio Linh holds over 10,000 graves. Con Co island is about 30 km offshore. Since 2025 the new Quang Tri includes former Quang Binh, with its centre in Dong Hoi.
Cua Tung and Cua Viet beaches have flat sand. Specialities include snakehead fish noodle porridge, Phuong Lang rice rolls, My Chanh tapioca dumplings and Cua pepper.
