Administrative changes to know
Since 1 July 2025 the new Ca Mau combines former Ca Mau and Bac Lieu; the former city is split into new wards.
The two-tier model (province, then commune or ward) applies from 1 July 2025, so old district names no longer appear on new documents. When booking for Ca Mau, old names, new names or a map pin all work.
Pick-up areas and choosing a vehicle
HCMC to Ca Mau runs by expressway to Can Tho then on, about 6–7 hours; the Can Tho – Ca Mau expressway shortens the trip. Ca Mau – Bac Lieu is about 65 km.
U Minh Ha forest
U Minh Ha National Park is about 35 km away, with melaleuca forest, boat rides and a lookout. Go in the morning and lunch back in town.

U Minh Ha National Park has melaleuca on peatland; the Song Trem eco-area offers a lookout tower, canoe rides, fishing and grilled snakehead. It is about 35–40 km from Ca Mau city. In the water season about August–December the forest is flooded; in the dry season fire risk limits access to deeper areas.
Ca Mau city and routes
Ca Mau city has a floating market on the Ganh Hao River, Bach Nguu square, a Khmer pagoda and the Ca Mau bird garden. Popular takeaways are dried shrimp, salted crab, U Minh honey and dried fish. Since 2025 the new Ca Mau includes former Bac Lieu. The Can Tho – Ca Mau expressway is opening in sections, shortening the trip from Can Tho. From HCMC Ca Mau is about 300 km, about 6–7 hours.

From Ca Mau city Nam Can is about 60 km on Highway 1, Song Doc about 50 km and Ganh Hao about 65 km. Ca Mau is laced with rivers and canals, so forest trips usually combine car and boat. The dry season around December–April has little rain and easier forest access; the wet season brings high tides that flood some roads.
